Daffycat said...

I love toads.
When I was a girl I used to stay up late in the summer to watch Star Trek reruns on Sunday (?) night. I would turn the back porch light on to attract bugs for my toad friend who was almost as large as a saucer. After watching Captain Kirk whoop 'em up, I'd go out and hand junebugs to the toad.

One night my dad asked why the light was on...he was a bit miffed, electric bill...and I showed him how the toad would snatch the bugs off my palm. He was amazed and had to make my mom come watch me feed the toad...those were the days!

Jennifer A. Jilks said...

I love your toads. We're looking for happy, animal photos in Canada, today.
I like Daffycat's story, too!

We had three out on our porch one morning recently. Our 2 year old grandson calls them "hop-toads". Are you sick and tired of the summer temperatures? I am-it's going to be in the 90's today! Hurry up fall weather!

Cute! I like them.

I'd say he/she/it/toad has puffed up as a defensive precaution.

He's beautiful! At least to me -- i love frogs and toads. And snakes (if they aren't poisonous) and spiders. Yes, i'm weird.

Jeanne said...

This is just the cutest toad ever! Love the amazing stuff that you find on your deck.

joeh said...

In 1970 my town in NJ had a plague of these little guys. All about 2 inches big. You could not drive down the street without taking out a dozen.

No one was yelling "Let my people go." So I guess it was some kind of natural phenomenon. Lasted about 10 days.

Barb said...

Look at those little "hands." No kissing!

Felicia said...

he is cute and VERY chubby too. You must feed your toads well....grin.

Halcyon said...

He is so adorable! I love toads. I grew up in Texas and got to see them often but there are none where I live, just little tree frogs, which are not as fun to hold.

You always have incredible photo topics. There is not one animal on your page that I don't love. Today a Texas Toad! Makes me want to get in car and drive on over. Thanks for the entertainment. I commend you on dedication to your mighty fine blog!

Gunilla Bäck said...

So cute! Did you try to kiss him?

Ian H said...

Kissing a frog causes the frog to turn into a prince. Kissing a toad causes the person to turn into a toad. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. If in doubt, give it a try.:-}

Nancy J said...

Are they the ones that spit? Or is it the spit that is not good on your skin? Love #3, he is a cool dude for sure. Jean.

Sallie (fullTime -life) said...

Love toads with their grumpy little faces. Cute! Love the last shot.

I had three emerald green, teeny tiny frogs jump in and on my kayak yesterday. Too close to photograph, but I had fun "helping" them back where they belonged.

I adore toads, I used to like to play with ones like this when I lived in Texas. Where I live now I never see any, it is sad. And they are such good bug eaters. Great shots!
