Red-Shouldered Hawk

A juvenile, I believe, perched in a tree along the yard/pond.
Prickling those chest feathers!

Don't let the hearts fool you. Any bird that can spin its head like a top like that is just trouble waiting to happen. :-)

Hawks are beautiful, intelligent birds. The other day, I heard a ruckus out by the chicken coop - I looked and all the hens were running and hiding under the trucks, trailers, trees - I looked up and saw a hawk circling around the yard. I see one almost every day hunting mice in our field - maybe not mice that day - chicks are easy pickins too. Have a great day!

Linda Kay said...
