A Roadrunner and a Squirrel

A Greater Roadrunner perches on the bird bath.
 A Fox Squirrel approaches...
Cue the dramatic music: "DUM, Dum, dummmmm..."
Eek! A stare down! Gosh, there's actually TWO squirrels, there!
 {more dramatic music}

 Oh, no!

 Panic sets in...
A scream is heard! (Just kidding...)

"Hark! Who goes there?" the Roadrunner calls out.
"Just a sneaky varmint," answers the Squirrel.
And just as quickly, he disappears into the dark, um, light!
And the Roadrunner breathes a sigh of relief...

Note to self: Refrain from preparing blog posts when you've been drinking wine...

I say drink wine every time you post, I love it... so now we know Roadrunners trump squirrels

Margaret Adamson said...

Yes Sandra is right. I love the 'crack' (an Irish word) in this post and you managed to get such great close ups of the Roadrunner. Just don't drink too much wine when you are photographing!!

DJan said...

Love it! I especially like the sense of humor the flavor of wine has released. :-)

Any minute I was ready for that squirrel to come over the bowl. Roadrunner...whew! Squirrel...huh?

Christian Perrin said...

Haha! I think you should do more posts while drinking wine! I enjoyed these series of photos - it's still hard to believe you get Roadrunners in your yard, as I've always thought of them as remote desert birds. Amazing!

Julie Flanders said...

LOL I love the roadrunner's face in the "panic has set in" picture. Adorable all the way around. Glad things worked out for him in the end and disaster was averted. :D

I think the wine worked just fine.

See, another 'unsettling' tale of a bushy-tailed varmint. I'm so happy I'm not the only one who, from time to time, is 'unsettled' by them. What a beautiful bird, btw.

Joseph Jameson-Gould said...

Haha! I wonder what happen if the roadrunner had some wine? Doesn't bare thinking about!

Duncan said...

Posting without wine? Where's the fun in that?? Beautiful photos. I don't think I have ever seen a roadrunner that close up. Lovely!

Ian H said...

Maybe that's what I have been doing wrong! No wine!

Mary Hone said...

Wine induced blog posts are the best. I have never seen a roadrunner that close, they are always so damn fast.

A fine series of this wily roadrunner. They are so pert and sharp looking. As a bird they are so worthy of being famous in that cartoon.

You do such a great job of capturing the facial expressions of the critters at your feeders. Throw in some witty dialogue and it just falls in place to create a comical situation. The whistlers were my favorite but this road-runner guy is definitely a close second!!

Kinda' on the same theme, when I saw the title of your post I immediately thought it sounded like the start of a joke "a squirrel and a roadrunner walk into the RunAround...."

Nice pictures!!
