Another Dab of Summer Color

Feeder sharing back in August.
Chickadee, Mrs. and Mr. Painted Bunting, molting Mr. Cardinal

Chickadee departed.

 Photo-bombed by a Squirrel!!!
Mr. Painted Bunting hangs around long enough for Chickadee to return.

Mr. Painted Bunting finally leaves and little baby Buntings come in to feed.

That's a good amount of colour for a 'dash'

We had our first dash of heat here today - and that's enough for me!

Mr. Bunting seems to say to the chickadee, "Hey, where'd you go? Come on back!" and chickadee arrives with legs splayed proudly. "I made it!" As for the squirrel.. well, the nerve!

(thank you for noticing the new addition to my life)

Your birdy restaurant sure has some great traffic - That squirrel is funny . . i wonder if they actually take themselves seriously . . I would have simply thought "finch" - YOU know exactly what kind . . how the heck did you learn so much about these birds? I suspect that's why they visit - because you appreciate them . . maybe there's some kind of signal system for birds - like there used to be for "hobos" - did anyone ever tell you stories about how vagabonds used to leave messages - little symbols on fences - so others would know what kind of person they were calling on??? i wonder if birds spread the word that you care about who they are . . . hmmmm

Mr Squirrel almost looks adorable in that shot...I guess all the birds are used to him trying to horn in on the buffet.
