Picking Paints

The male is so colorful, and the females so plain Jane. We used to see them around Whitney, when we lived further north.

The most delightfully coloured birds around. They don't normally range this far north but one was spotted in our province last month - very late for stragglers and unusual too.

Very nice, Theresa! I may be resorting to some archived photos myself soon. :-) I always enjoy the painted buntings so much!

You are right about the verdin...they are very noisy, flittering little birds. They get upset that they can't get a good purchase to drink out of the hummingbird feeders and sit and fuss at me. :-) I love that I have a family of them in my yard, and hope they will nest again in the palo verde in the spring, but now in the front yard, since the back yard tree is gone.
