I just love these photos! Looks like they are hunkering down - maybe from a hawk? I have had mourning doves 'hide' on my deck when hunted. They look very intelligent.

We don't have any of those fellas around here. I was mostly impressed by the size of there feet. I'm guessing that's what gets them to where they are going so quickly.

They are Roadrunners - aren't they??? The touch of red behind the eyes made me think of a woodpecker - but the beak is too stocky!!
They almost look like Juvenals!!

I love roadrunners! I haven't seen many, but there were some in the Mojave desert where I stayed some winters. They make a cool sound too. great shots of the obliging birds!

Terrific shots, Theresa! I used to have them come through my yard when I lived on a canyon in San Diego, but they never hung around, so it't great to see the details of their feathers and eye streaks. I didn't realize they have iridescent green on their wing and tail feathers. I wonder what they would eat if you fed them on your deck. I have lots of visitors now for sunflower seeds but I don't know if roadrunners eat seeds.
