Great red-winged blackbird, even if they hang out with starlings.

Love those red patches. Great photos, Theresa!

I was surprised to see one of your boys with red millet in his beak. Even the squirrels won't eat that stuff here. It piles up on the ground when I get a bag of seed with a lot of it.

There is one hole on the golf course... a par three over a small pond with cattails all around... there are so many of these beauties there... I designated it the blackbird hole. Hmmmm... it's been a year since I've played; maybe the curiosity will get me back out there. ;) blessings ~ tanna

Quite striking, but those blackbirds have a mean streak for a few weeks in May....

Theresa, I am always amazed at the colors God created on the birds that repeat in the same spot from generation to generation. Great pictures.

It's amazing what a little splash of color will do to pretty up a black bird.

I wonder why the females are not at the party.

Always liked these guys.

I often wonder, I do believe in evolution, but what evolutionary advantage is it to a bird to be colored so beautifully? Maybe God likes to throw a little seasoning into the recipe from time to time.

Stephen Hayes said...

Love the red epaulets.

sharon said...

love the touch of color on their wings..

Debby@Just Breathe said...

Yes, they are very handsome!

HighPlainsFlyFisher said...

I get lots of those at my feeders as well and enjoy watching them. Their cousin , the Grackle , is another story though. They like to run off all of the smaller birds and then proceed to empty out every bit of food from the feeders (most of which ends up on the ground). Every once in awhile the group gets so large I actually run them off if possible!
