Pretty Heron shots! And I found the Whistling duck right away.. Happy Sunday!

Maybe he thinks that's not his best side you are taking pictures of! Nice shots, no matter what he thinks.

Good thing you still managed to capture it, even though it's so shy.

A couple of weeks ago I had gone for a late walk and then sat all bundled up on the porch to watch the moon rise. It was cold and beautiful and clear... and overhead a big ole heron flew silently over in the dark. It was such a beautiful experience... Thank you for the early morning reminder. And, the bonus Whistler. =) blessings ~ tanna

Well, it's cold and slushy here, and that warm sun makes me wish were in Texas. ;)

Oh my goodness. This GBH looks even shyer than the usual!

those whistlers don't want anyone else to steal the spotlight!!

this heron does appear shy, they are skittish. here they usually spot me as soon as I spot them and I have to snap quickly or I am out of luck!!!!

Kate said...

They seem to be familiar friends, each going about their own business.

Terri B said...

No doubt he is cold- it's freezing! LOL! Nice shots, and I see your cute little whistler. ♥

don said...

The Herons are such ungainly looking birds. Somehow this bird looks out-of-place in a woodland area rather than near the water. A fine series!

bj said...

I see that little duckie.....
I think the Heron is just plain COLD...

He's fluffy:@)

Cold or not, that's a majestic bird and how neat to have him at your pond.

William Kendall said...

Ungainly though they might look, herons are majestic birds.

Sylvia K said...

Such a beautiful bird! He looks so elegant!!

Stephanie Faris said...

Beautiful! Probably cold. I've noticed my dog curls up really tightly when she comes in from outside and it's cold. She'll make sure her nose is covered.

Karen S. said...

They are a beautiful creature to me, in all their little movements. I can't wait to see some again once winter finally leaves.

nookworm said...

Hope the ones I will see soon are not that shy! Nice shots.

Lovely Heron and the Whistling Duck, beautiful.

Revrunner said...

I think we should administer a Myers-Briggs test to see if he's really shy or just faking it. :-)

wildlifewatcher said...

Hi Theresa, Yes, Great Blue Herons do tend to be wary of people and quite shy. Great pictures! Have super nice coming week!

Gail said...

Smart bird. I would not be in the water today.

Great shots.

Brian King said...

Little fella is a juvie which is probably why he's a bit shy! Nice shots! :-)

Cool that you managed a Whistler in the same shot as the heron.

barbara l. hale said...

I think you might be right about the cold part. If the weather there is like the weather here in FL, that heron needs a jacket.

The story of my life, when I take pictures of animals, they turn their head away.

Love the Heron and a glimpse of the Whistler

Paula said...

Looks like a good place to get out of the cold. No sun here again today but no drizzle either.

Jeanne said...

Shyness would be an interesting twist as I have found these birds to have some serious attitude. Of course up here they most likely have far more exposure to humans.

Lynne said...

Maybe SHY and COLD!

Gosia k said...

he is sleepy noy shy

Stephen Hayes said...

Maybe the shy heron doesn't like being whistled at.

Dearest Theresa,
It might be shy, cold or just being under the weather like human beings have their ups and downs!

She's lovely. I love the blue color against the browns and golds. I still have never seen one in person.

Meant to say I am sorry you lost your Dad on Jan. 3rd also. I'm sure that no matter how many years pass there's no dulling of the sense of grief though.

I almost never get to see Great Blue Herons, so it's a treat, even if he's shy or cold!

awwwww poor guy

Cheryl @ TFD said...

He does look shy. Maybe the photo bomber scared him?

Gert said...

Love the Heron!

Stephanie said...

I spotted a Whistler in the second shot!

Paul said...

Shy yes but grouchy too! Herons take their fishing very seriously and can be very cantankerous if anyone disturbs it...

You got some nice pictures of this one!

Angela said...

Beautiful! I love Heron's.

Blondie's Journal said...

Great shot. I need a better zoom lens. our blue herons are always near the weeds along the shore, some times perched on the shore station...just very smart about not getting close to civilization (and do you blame them?!)

Once a blue heron flew right past my sunroom window. I could see the details so plain. Of course I didn't have camera in hand. It was so surreal.
Lucky you get photos!
