Birds in the Snow

We went through a lot of seed and feed during the snow storms and freezes.
Flocks of Blackbirds perched all around the pond, waiting for seed refills.

I threw out some old dog food for the Crows.
The other birds don't think much of it and won't touch it.
Female Cardinal, Field Sparrow and male and female Red-Winged Blackbirds in the foreground.
You can just see them wondering, "What is this crap, er, stuff?"

Red-winged Blackbirds
This lady is giving me attitude!
It doesn't take long for the Crows to clean it up, though.

Stuffing it in.

Great snow/bird photos. How many seeds can a crow cram into its beak? Slow down, man. o.O

The snowy scenery in the first photo is very pretty. You do have a lot of mouths or beaks to feed at your place.

Did you see the video of the four year old girl who had been feeding the crows... they had brought her "gifts". You may be finding some "shiny objects" too! =) blessings ~ tanna

Years ago, we'd see crows "steal" dog food from our neighbor's yard, then bring it to our birdbath and dip it to soften it!

Love the way they line up, knowing more will be forthcoming!

Very nice shots, especially of the bird with attitude.

We have one family of 4 crows and one of them has a bad leg. I think it must have got the foot tangled up in something and in trying to get loose ruined the elbow joint. Anyway, he has to hop around on one foot and that leg muscle must be huge. I try to make sure he gets plenty of dog food and raw peanuts. The starlings discovered what I was doing so I have to put enough out to make sure the 4-crows get enough to eat.

A fine series of the coping with adverse weather. The birds are very interesting. I'm glad to see that you provide something for the crows. I've always felt that they are wild birds too, rather than sheer pests.

Smart use of the old dog food!

I remember critter food critiques like that.

I used to have a rabbit who lived on the first floor and ate his food from a bowl in the kitchen. And my brother and I both had a cat. They'd occasionally check out each other's food bowls, and you could just see the eye-rolls.

Texas is well known for being friendly to its snowbirds! I can only imagine how much seed you went through -- they sure are enjoying it and at least they gave you cute pictures. Our daughter and sil (in Oregon) have given up completely on feeders and just scatter seed near their picture window. Squirrels and crows clean up what the perchers don't get and they get to watch them all.
