These are amazing close ups. I can't imagine how close you must have been to get these high quality close ups. Excellent work.

The mourning dove is a very quiet peaceful fellow. You caught that in your photo.

This dove is so pretty. I wonder why it is named Mourning Dove.

Mourning doves are so lovely and I love their long sad calls. They also move slowly so are a source of entertainment for the cats when they are playing outside in their tunnel. They feel they are big hunters stalking their prey but the birds remain completely safe from harm....a win-win for everybody.

Nancy J said...

Superb details of their feathers, and after a little preening, happy to sit and pose for you. Every one a winner.

Sally said...

Very pretty. I wonder why they're called "mourning" though. I guess that goes back (like so many things) to when they came into existence and someone named it that way.

Hope you're having a good weekend. :)

Such beautiful birds and terrific captures as always!! Love the close-ups!!

Jeanne said...

I love the sound they make but they are not the most intelligent nest builders. I had one that year after year tried to make a nest in the lattice above the deck and the eggs would always drop through.

Now that these lovelies are visiting my yard, I look for them. Of course, they probably were always there and I just didn't pay attention. Isn't it strange how cameras bring nature up front and center?

Just checking in to see if you had any beautiful birds....oh my gosh, these images ARE so very BEAUTIFUL.

Thanks, Ms. T, for sharing this link [tho it hasn't been added yet? at last time I looked.]

Needless to say your contribution is always appreciated.

Are y'all flooding up your way? I'm ready for some dry air...we still need the rain, and I'm not complaining...I just wanna get out without sinking in the mire. lol

I think they are such a magnificent bird...

Pretty birds, but terrible nest builders. We've rescied a few baby doves from nests that fell apart!

That feather must have been itchy and ready to moult.
