It Was a "Great" Day

A day in early February, eight Great Egrets stopped by all at once and joined a Great Blue Heron and a small group of Gadwalls at the pond.

I like the Gadwall enclosed in a white reflection
I only managed to catch five at most in one frame as they were almost constantly moving around the pond.

There is one.

Then three.

Almost a collision!

Whew! Close call!
Finally getting along?

Not for long!

I encounter some of their relations, blue herons, on the streams. I'm impressed how they can fly in tight spaces with those long wings.

Love the series.

Hi Theresa,
The 'collision' moment is very beautiful. So are the others, but the 'collision' is my favorite, if I may have one. You need a live webcam at the pond at this rate :)

Have a Beautiful Day!

I wonder, are they from the same family? Friends? or do they barely tolerate each-other as they jostle for a landing and take-off? Super sets of pics.

We were stormed on last night. A tornado hugged the Arkansas border from west to east around 60 miles to the southwest of us, but I do not think it was all that destructive. All we got up here was several intense thunderstorm cells passing through that did not last too long at a time.

Good Morning Dearest Theresa; Oh, three kinds of birds were having fun time together in the pond♫♫♫
What a great timing you could capture 'Almost a collision' shot. And 'Not for long' you chose for the last of this post is a lovely one♡♡♡

Yes, I've noticed that blue heron I see in my area has lighter color. Fun to see the difference :-)

I thought they were practicing their aerial acrobatics. Looks like you need to build a control tower to manage flights. You have quite a following down there--your place must have rated highly on vacation spots for tourist birds.
