This series of photos is definitely something to crow about!

Couldn't resist the opportunity, I'd say I'm sorry but I'm really not. =)

I do believe he's giving you the stink-eye in that last pic:@)

because of your photography I have learned how really pretty these birds are that i always thought of as ugly. your close up of their details shows they are not ALL black, in the air and trees they look like black blobs and they are not.

We love our crows in the park as they are such characters. Have a serene and easy Sunday.
Best wishes Molly

Great series on the crows. They are fascinating. Have a happy Sunday!

Probably the only "close-ups" I've ever really seen of crows. Their feathers are amazing! We have at least one that "lives" nearby. When I throw out corn for the ducks, I hear him cawing up in the tree. I think he waits til they finish, hoping they leave a kernel or two for him!

Lois Evensen said...

Very cool! They are so shiny and pretty! They do look angry, don't they....

Super shots, Tex. We have Crows around here, but they seem to stay out in the country more. Not only are they fascinating, but they're super intelligent as well. (I learned that by watching Discovery Channel.) :)

Gail said...

Crows make good watch dogs.

I had one for a pet as a child. Named him Jim Crow. How original is that? He was allowed freedom after he was healed enough to leave. He never left, guarded my ducks and become a wonderful watch "dog".

Pix Under the Oaks said...

Yes they are so very cool! Love these shots that show fish scale-like feathers.. I don't think I would have ever noticed that!

ThreeOldKeys said...

All those details ... feathers, eyes, beak ... thank you for sharing! The last one is a hoot. Or a caw.

I had a glossy all-black dog and wow could she be hard to photograph.

Great pictures! I love taking close-up pictures of birds and fish and whatever else is hanging around the pond near my house (saw some turtles there once) but I feel silly doing it sometimes, like "what? you've never seen a bird before?" then I see blogs like this and I feel better. So thanks for posting these!

My great aunt had a pet crow that everyone said was extremely intelligent. I remember seeing it, but I was young and don't remember much about it.

Janey and Co. said...

I don't see many of those in town. Maybe they are out there because you feed them? Sleek black feathers.

Hannah said...

Your photos are great, they look so intelligent and crafty. They are keeping their eye on you for sure. I have my share of these, I have to be careful not to leave an egg on the grass.

We always had pet crows when I was a kid. My brother would catch a young one and train it to stay home. One in particular would steal the clothespins from lines, letting the laundry drop to the ground. They are VERY smart.

Sallie (FullTime-Life) said...

They are smart! The ones here in Florida look the same but sound different. They have an accent I guess.

Hi Tex,
I am catching up..

I love crows and agree they are fascinating birds. Very intelligent too.
I had a friend who had one in her house.. it was free to fly around.. but always sat on top of the telephone.. and if anyone tried to touch the phone other than her, it would nip.. messy things though. but he could talk.
I am not sure what is the difference between Raven's and Crow's..
great photos you have taken here of them Tex.
wishing you a happy week val
xx

Cracking looking birds - crows of all sorts are great to watch.

I think the late arrival of WWB last week may have been caused by our clocks changing here at the weekend.
