I've never seen a green heron. It's beautiful! They must be very rare.

Very cool, and he's playful for the camera too. I didn't even realize there was a Green Heron! Now I wonder if we get them around here too? Oh Google!

Revrunner said...

Looks a little lonely out there, doesn't he? :-)

Great series on the Green Heron! Another cool visitor to your pond! Happy Tuesday!

Karen S. said...

Why yes we do have Green Heron in Minnesota and summer is their breeding time! I think yours is getting all pretty for mating time!

messymimi said...

Handsome bird! Not as tall as some of the ones we see at the shore, but every bit as good looking.

Kathy said...

When I see the green heron I always wonder how they were named. They look more blue to me! But I notice I see some colors that I think are definitely purple and others call them blue. Maybe I should get my eyes tested for color recognition! Great shots no matter the color!

Julia said...

He's a handsome bird and great shots. I love his tone down feather colors.

The colors are beautiful on that bird. I wonder why they didn't name it the blue and red heron.

Beautiful! I love its coloring!

Sandra said...

he is a beauty and i would like him in my yard rather than the flock of Ibis that have taken up residence these last few days

Author R. Mac Wheeler said...

Neat birds. I love them. Find them to be a lot more skittish than the average heron or ibis. So don't often get a good closeup.

Alica said...

So pretty! Or should I say handsome?!

Anvilcloud said...

I guess it depends on both the light and the individual heron because they often don't look green.

Hi Theresa, Beautiful photography! Such a stunning wading bird! Glad you have the diversity of wildlife you do at your ranch! Have a super day!

Karen Schurr said...

Beautiful capture of this very pretty and majestic bird. I saw a green heron for the 1st time a couple of years ago in Sarasota FL. Got a camera shot of it, but he was maybe 100 feet away, and I just couldn't get a good look at him. The one I saw was much smaller than a blue heron, but I'm not sure if that's a species specific trait or if he was just a juvenile. Regardless, they are a special treat to see.

Nancy J said...

just to sit awhile, preen, get those feathers just so, and have some photos taken, what a day for him., Beautiful shades in his plumage, a magnificent fellow .

JEALOUS, even with the giant herons we get here and the zoom lens, they'll never sit still long enough for good photos.

What a secretive little fellow:) But I suspect he doesn't know you're watching or if he does, he's got an escape plan. They have such grouchy rant calls that always make me laugh. They carry the spirit of an old man:)
