Skinny Chicken

One of our Greater Roadrunner pals (whom I lovingly refer to as "Skinny Chickens") came by for an early June visit on the deck. Usually they start hanging around the yard and deck in autumn (after breeding season), so this was an early pop-in.

Maybe he/she just needed a short break from the kids. :)

Does have that sort of wide-eyed parent look. :-)

I love these scrawny little birds. They seem somewhat out of place here in the Pineywoods where I live but I like seeing them scamper across one of our nearby dirt roads.

Pretty bird, especially in close up. As I looked through them, I could hear that character saying, "I look right, I look left, I look right. Take my picture, I'm cute." ;)

Great photos! I wonder if he/she got to thinking about the smorgasbord at your house and just had to visit. I hear they will eat dog food. o.O

gotta love that face ... alert and focused ... a critter would have to be pretty wily to catch that bird napping!

love seeing roadrunners. :)

Driving home yesterday, on a busy street, we saw a coyote perched on top of a retaining wall, looking at the 8 lane road. Crazy brave for a coyote! Must be the drought. :(
