Hello, the houses seem abandoned and need some love. And the gate is locked up tight. Great find, Tex! Thanks for hosting! Have a happy day and weekend ahead!

perhaps two family member lived in each home and have passed on now. Good fence for today. thanks for hosting and have a lovely weekend.

at one time my brother owned 60 acres and we discussed putting 3 houses on the property, his, ours and my parents, but we never did. this one looks like maybe the second one was built maybe by a child.

Well that's a grumpy looking gate :-/ perfect capture for Halloween just around the corner :-)

It is a lot of fun to see all these interesting gates and fences you find in Texas. Thanks for hosting :)

Twin Gates....I like that idea.

I had the same feeling Eileen had...that the homes might be abandoned. I think there could be a spooky Halloween story here. ;))

There's something endearing to me about those rickety old gates and fences.
Many thanks for hosting this great meme!

A modest homesite with a modest fence. Or should I say "neglected?"

Mascha said...

It seems so lost...
By the way: my mother is living in such property too with good neighbors in a second home nearby. Good neighbors are a lucky thing -

I like the simplicity of the gates even if they haven't been maintained!

Beautifully simple gates, but hate seeing houses abandoned and unloved.

It looks a good paint job would make a big difference! Enjoyed the photos.

Hello Theresa!:) It doesn't look friendly! There is a good story here, perhaps a sad one!

Lynne said...

Very secured looking fences. . .
The homes look like no one is living there . . .
Abandoned . . .?

CelestinaMarie@SouthernDayDreams said...

Looks like it was beautiful property at one time. The gate entrances are unique and I'm sure where charming in times past. Great fixer uppers here!
Thanks for hosting! cm

Jeevan said...

Looks like the gates are unused for long time! But beautiful captures overall

Gayle said...

Looks like the gate is serving its purpose if the home is unoccupied.
Based on the style of the two homes my scenario is that a couple bought the farm of their dreams and lived in the small home first. As things progressed they built the larger one. Or . . . parents lived in the smaller and an adult child built the second.
Wouldn't we all laugh to know the real story ;).

nookworm said...

That's a sad sight....makes me wonder about it's history.

DJan said...

Sure would like to know the story behind those old homes. A lot of other commenters have speculated and made up some good stories! :-)

It looks a lot like the little house I grew up in...but I didn't have a fence! lol Sweet hugs, Diane

In days past, I'd want to pick this up for a good price and fix it up. Places like this area always intriguing to me. Thanks for hosting.

Debbie said...

hehehehe, my kinda' gate, easy to get around!!! looking abandon, it would be a great project for a young, newly married couple with a lot of energy to fix it up. it's cute...i don't know why these young couples need these "macmansions" they are building, living in and then losing to the banks!!!

it could be super sweet!!!!

I just think its a gate that needs a good lick of paint!

Two houses, two gates, one fence, feels great.

John @ Sinbad and I on the Loose said...

I could live there quite nicely. Not sure what I'd do with the second house. I know, it could be my vacation home.

I'd like living there, gate or no gate. :)

So forlorn.

orchid Miyako said...

Dearest Theresa; Is that white gate closed tight? I wondered if the two houses are (or were) lived by the same family. Oh, quite different scene with my late parents Japanese house but made me wish these are not abandoned.

Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

Uppal said...

Simple gates and the property seems to be sort of given up!

A bit of a sense of desolation here.

Very cool. Great idea for a recurring "meme," as well! I will have to join in the future for sure.

Our property has two homes. Quite common for a son to build a home on the property if he works the property. Or as in our case, they outgrew the old house, so built a newer larger one.

Breathtaking said...

Theresa, I have tried both ways, and three times to link up, but it's just not happening.

Karen S. said...

I like the idea of two gates, especially with two houses. The gates and driveway appear to be out of use, perhaps there's another walk through gate? The smaller house perhaps a mother-in-law house, and it could be the family is off on a European vacation. Wouldn't that wonderful?!

happywonderer.com said...

Interesting fence and property. I can't help but think of the "Fixer Upper" show and what they could do with this property!

Rose said...

They almost look abandoned...

ladyfi said...

Sweet old houses - would be nice when renovated.

Midmarsh John said...

Often surprises me that the gates look fairly substantial but the fences are easy to climb over.

Debby Ray said...

Is the property abandoned? It almost looks as though it is. Several years ago we are actually looking for a property with two homes on it...wasn't supposed to happen since it didn't! The security gate looks somewhat mysterious.

Miss Val's Creations said...

There is something charming about this property!

Tamago said...

That house looks kind of empty. Maybe good for Halloween spot :-)

Sylvia K said...

Shots like this stir my curiosity about who lives or lived there and why the locked gate? Where are the people now?? But then, as you can tell, I tend to be a "nosy" old broad!! Hope your week is going well! Take care!

Ida said...

I'm always late to the party and as I read the comments I see that many people have suggested reasons why there are two homes on the property. - It's often common around here for people who have ranches to have 2 homes like that because once they made more money they ended up building the 2nd (better) home on the property and the other was used for family or ranch managers. - Anyway I really like the neat old matching twin gates. Gives it character.

I feel like moving in and giving some loving care to the place.

It doesn't look like that gate has been recently opened, it's a shame. Houses like this make me think of Robert Cray's "Great Big Old House" song, one of my all time favorites.

Texas must have more fences than anywhere else on earth! Are they to keep animals in or keep people out?

Seems like there is probably a story behind those two homes -- family compouond? .... Abandoned or neglected homes and barns always make me wonder.

White fences are my favorite! Do you think it's abandoned, like some here think? I don't know. Around where I live there are houses looking like this, but people live in it.

I wonder what stories this house would tell. It looks like someone still live next door. The grass is cut on the other side of the fence.

T, looks kind of dumpy!

I wonder if family once vied in one house and they rented the other...or if it was extended family in one. Either way it looks like it was a nice spot and the gates were definitely sturdily built. They still look pretty good.

Debby@Just Breathe said...

That's interesting. They need some paint!

pattisjarrett said...

It looks pretty quiet around that place, and the gates have probably seen better days. Another great find, thanks for hosting!

We have a few of those in our bit of country. Mom and Dad or Grandma and Grandpa let a young relative build on their land. The houses you clicked don't look occupied. They need some flowers and some "stuff" in the yard.. :)

Here is a rustic simplicity. Only nature has witnessed what has been happening.
