Good Fences #125

I grew up calling these metal structures 'pole buildings'. Here is one that was built specifically to be a residence.
Of course they have a ranch gate. :)
Here's the link-up.

1. Link in a post featuring a photo or photos of fences or gates.
2. Link back to Run*A*Round Ranch Report in your post or use the badge code to display the Good Fences button in your post that automatically links back here.
3. If time allows, please visit some of the other participants and comment on their shared posts.

Thank you!

They have a lovely spread. These pole buildings remind me of Australian ranches - they seem very similar.
Great fence and ranch gate!
Thanks for hosting!

We called them pole barns when I was growing up. I've never seen one as a home. Actually quite nice! So is the entrance!

Good morning, I think it is a cute place and I like the ranch gate. I see the pole barns here, they seem to be common use for the horses. Thanks for hosting! Happy Thursday, enjoy your day!

I wonder if there is any home with out a gate.... this is a nice house. we called barns like this pole barns

Well a ranch would not be a ranch without a gate in Texas, now would it !!! Thanks for hosting Tex and have a good weekend.

Little tree in front of building looks beautiful and well maintained.

Pole barns here have graduated to pole garages but haven't seen a home yet. These owners did very well. BTW, nice fence. The house seems to have stolen the show this week :)

I wonder if it might be one of those prefabricated modular homes. In any event, the simple floor plan can cut costs and still be attractive.

Lovely place, neat and well-maintained. Thank you, for hosting.

Whatever it's called, of course, it has a ranch gate. :)

Neat and clean looking but, to me, it lacks something...maybe a tree or two? Nice gate!

Metal house? Wouldn' that be very hot? ~ Great shots of fence and gate ~

Wishing you a Happy Weekend coming up ~

These are very good, clear shots of this house. I like how they have added a regular gate to their place even though it's apparantly not a ranch.

That's a really nice gate.

Mighty nice for a Pole Building ... the ones I have seen around here wouldn't be livable. The fence matches it perfectly :)

I guess a home in Texas isn't complete without a gate and fence! I'd like to see the actual inside of a metal pole barn type house.

These are great, T!

I'm not the only one thinking it might be prefabricated.

Hello Theresa!:) I have never heard of a pole barn, but it has clean lines and is quite attractive, especially with the ranch gate, but if it's made of metal it must get really hot.

Stephen Hayes said...

Certainly a well-tended property.

Pom Pom said...

Hello dear TexWis! So does EVERYBODY have a ranch gate?

Lynne said...

I have called structures like that, pole barns too . . .
They fancied up their "barn" with some grand fencing and a gate entrance.

Theresa, a homey pole barn. Thanks for sharing.

Your picture remind me of something my daddy used to say....."Those fake columns couldn't hold up a flea in a storm" But, then, he was a safety engineer. I have not been coming across too many fences lately because of working on my artwork, some popped up on my ride u on the parkway. It is always fun to be able to participate. genie

They are beautiful, upright poles, nothing like it.

Look at all those solar panels on the roof, at least that is what I guess they are. No roof overhang, for rain or snow runoff, maybe that is the way they are built, Lovely setting, looks very serene.

The gate entrance is lovely.

I've never heard of a pole anything! They need some shade around the house - it looks terribly hot!

Yup, "we" have built a couple of pole barns in our lifetime -- I've never seen a home built that way, but no reason it shouldn't work. Thank you for hosting.

I've heard the term pole structure but never regarding a house. It does make a good house.

It's weird to me to see such a huge, low building. For me, I think just about every building for miles around is at least 3 or 4 floors tall!

It's got a roof and walls, and closets...it's a home!

I've seen "pole barns" but not homes. We call that a ranch-style home!

pattisjarrett said...

Many of these are used as office/warehouse spaces in our area. I've never seen one made into a residence. Nice gate. :)

Nice Pole House and gate!

I'd never heard about Pole Buildings or Pole Barnes before so I just spent the last 10 minutes "Googling" them... Interesting!

mick said...

Interesting to have different words for very similar structures. Thanks for sharing from your part of the world.

Rita said...

I've never seen a pole barn made into a home. Way cheaper, I'd imagine. Probably smart thing. :)

Phil Slade said...

I don't much mind what that house is constructed from, it's just real nice.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi Theresa - after all the straight and angular lines - you'd think the gate would be that way too - not a curve ... cheers Hilary

My son helped build a residence in one. Actually, I think it was a pole barn, with a residence built on the inside, on the second level. The photos were quite impressive. Warehouse/Barn on the lower level.

Revrunner said...

A quick search produced some fascinating "pole barn" structures.

Tamago said...

Pole building is a new word for me! The house looks very nice!

Mandy Southgate said...

I don't know too much about the construction of the building, but we call houses like this 'ranch style houses' in South Africa. We obviously stole the idea from your part of the world.

Darn, work made me late to the party again, but I did give Good Fences a shout out in my post this morning! And we still here in Minnesota call these (usually barns, like ours out back) pole barns! Extremely cool one here!

Debby Ray said...

I see these buildings more and more but not sure if I have seen one as a house...interesting! I wonder if it would keep you cooler or add to the heat in the hot summer??

If they have a metal roof I imagine it would get very noisy in the rainy season.

Dearest Theresa; I checked 'pole buildings' with Wikipedia and picture page♪ I learned about 'pole-built structure'☆☆☆ Pretty fence with ranch gate.
Well, whenever I see wide single-storied house in your post, these house may be better for my husband with his handicap not having have to go up stairs :-)

Finally, I'm starting to visiting friends(^^;)

This makes me think you've always lived in TX, Theresa. I have never heard of a pole structure of any kind! I'd just call it ranch-style.

I've never seen one constructed as a house. It looks pretty good. I guess they worry about rust, instead of termites.

Browsing back a little on your blog here to see what I've missed. Don't think I've ever seen a house like that. I know I've seen plenty of barns turned houses, but this must be a relatively new idea. There are so many places though where the outbuildings are bigger than the houses. I wonder if some lady of the house finally decided to find a solution by claiming the shed and turning that into the house!
