Grandam of Toads

Back in March, I posted about this amazing toad. I saw her again this month, resting overnight in the pan of water I keep under the dryer vent (in hot, dry weather, the toads love having their own night spa.)

When I saw her a second night, I took the chance to hold her for a moment.
She was squiggling to get away.
I quickly set her down to resume life.
She is a marvel.

I love to see toads! I know they are busy catching the insects that munch on my flowers.
Did you see Lois' post - birds on a fence - you should invite her to link to your Good Fences meme
Have a great week-end!

Hello Teresa!:) Wow! A lovely big Toad, So glad you knew how to handle it. A friend's son who was playing in our garden found one, and tried to pick it up, and it squirted a liquid in his eyes and he had to go to hospital, with acid like burns. It was a week before he could see properly.

Lynne said...

She is a hearty looking gal . . .
How do you know "she is a she?"

bj said...

she sure is big...but i have no desire to hold one...we see tiny little ones hopping around the pool and every now and then, the dogs start barking and looking deep into the pool and, sure 'nuf, when I go out and check, there's one or two little frogs swimming around....and I don't want to hold them, either. :)
i know toads and frogs are different but.......

I haven't seen my sister's garden toad(s) this visit, but we're keeping the garden dish watered for any who come by.

Cool! I like it when they stick around like relatives on a visit. She sure is huge, you would need something quite large to build her a toad house.

Leaving another comment because i cannot find an email address on your blog so i can reply there. Thank you so very, very much for the offer to send me your old phone! It's not the phones, it's the AT&T service that is causing the trouble. They left us with no service during the flooding, and now we can call sometimes, get texts through most of the time, but texts with pictures will not be sent. You have no idea how much i appreciate your very sweet offer. It always amazes me how people are so kind when troubles come.

Great photos of the Toad. I just with toads had a better reputation out here! A non-native toad was imported some years ago and it is very poisonous- to anything that gets the poison on it! Unfortunately these toads have become dominant in most places.
